The Chickens have Arrived

The long awaited day has arrived and we now have chickens. 

Nearly 2 weeks old, the chicks are growing every day.  They have just begun to develop their first set of feathers - mostly white ones - and are enjoying pecking their way around the new coop.  Tiny, the not-so-tiny mom, is getting comfortable with us around and is allowing us to pick up the chicks with little worry.  Her deep black feathers shine dark green in the sunlight.  She is beautiful. 

Winemaker Paul Beveridge can't wait for the chickens to get a little bigger and start pooping in the vineyard -- an important part of the biodynamic cycle.

We'll keep you posted on the little ones progress.  Girls...boys....we don't know yet.  Only time will tell.
